Regenerative Medicine

Patients suffering from acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain can benefit from treatment based on regenerative medicine. This treatment option provides advanced solutions to resolve your pain using innovative and non-invasive technology.

Regenerative medicine is designed for a broad range of podiatric and pain management uses and applications.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine focuses on the natural healing of chronically injured tissue in the foot or ankle that is unable to heal itself. For this, your doctor will either replace damaged and non-functional tissue with healthy cells or stimulate the body’s own tissues to regenerate and repair themselves.

At Advanced Foot & Ankle Wellness Center, Dr. Melissa Wawrzynek recommends the use of Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) and Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) as non-invasive forms of regenerative medicine that are designed to relieve pain in a risk-free manner.

She also uses stem cell injections and fat pad fillers to ease pain for her patients.

What Is EPAT?

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) is the most advanced and effective non-invasive treatment method approved by the FDA.

This proprietary technology is based on a unique set of pressure waves that stimulate the patient’s metabolism, enhance blood circulation, and accelerate healing. It encourages damaged tissue to regenerate and eventually heal.

This non-invasive, office-based procedure represents a breakthrough treatment option for a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions.

EPAT is used as an alternative to traditional treatment methods in podiatry, including surgery. It improves the regenerative potential within the human body, rather than further damaging an area that has degenerated because of poor blood flow, tissue injury, overuse, or weakness.

When performed by a qualified healthcare professional, EPAT treats the root cause of your pain or injury and improves blood flow, thus improving your mobility and quality of life with minimal risks or side effects.

Expected Results of EPAT

Patients often see positive effects with EPAT after only four treatments. Although it can take up to 4 weeks for pain relief to take effect, some patients have reported immediate pain relief after treatment.

EPAT aims to eliminate pain and restore full mobility, thus improving your quality of life. Over 80% of patients treated with EPAT report being pain-free and/or having significant pain reduction.

When to Consider EPAT

EPAT has a proven success rate that is equal to or greater than that of traditional treatment methods without the risks, complications, and lengthy recovery time related to surgery.

When performed at the Advanced Foot and Ankle Wellness Center, EPAT therapy does not require anesthesia and can be completed in a minimal amount of time.

Patients can usually bear weight (i.e., walk) immediately after the procedure and can plan to return to work or normal activities within 24-48 hours. Patients may also be able to resume strenuous activities after 4 weeks, but these results can vary for each patient.

Benefits of EPAT

EPAT is a beneficial treatment option because it:

  • Is evidence-based
  • Is non-invasive
  • Does not involve anesthesia
  • Does not involve any risk of infection
  • Does not involve scarring
  • Does not have downtime
  • Has over 80% patient satisfaction
  • Helps with faster, easier healing

What Is EMTT?

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) is a form of magnetic therapy that assists in the regeneration and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions.

EMTT is a non-invasive form of treatment that uses high-energy electromagnetic pulses transmitted to the affected areas. EMTT uses a high oscillation frequency, which allows for deeper penetration and superior tissue healing.

It can be used to treat a wide array of musculoskeletal diseases and dysfunction in minimal time with little to no pain or downtime. It provides very effective treatment for patients with conditions such as lower back and knee pain, tendinopathies, rotator cuff concerns, Achilles tendonitis, and sports injuries.

EMTT is performed as an outpatient procedure in our office. Treatment is usually quick, requiring only 5 to 20 minutes per session. Depending on the severity of your condition, Dr. Wawrzynek may recommend multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.

When is EMTT Used?

You may be a candidate for EMTT if you have experienced or are experiencing:

  • Sports injuries
  • Muscle spasms
  • Degenerative joint diseases
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Chronic pain
  • Post-surgical muscle stimulation
  • Decline in range of motion
  • Sore muscles that need relief

Benefits of EMTT

EMTT is a beneficial treatment option because:

  • It is a non-invasive treatment performed in-office
  • It is effective for a variety of conditions
  • It has little to no side effects or downtime
  • It has short treatment sessions
  • Its effectiveness increases when used in conjunction with EPAT

Biologic Injection Therapy

Biologic injection therapy uses naturally found substances in your body to help you heal. A biologic injection contains specific material or cells that affect other nearby cells and processes. Biologic injection therapy utilizes your body’s healing power.

Biologic injection therapy is considered a form of regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine encourages your body to fix itself by regenerating defective tissues.

One form of biologic used in biologic injection therapy is amniotic tissues. Amniotic tissue provides cutting-edge options for issues such as soft tissue pain, Achilles tendinosis, and other foot-related conditions. Amniotic tissue treatments provide a non-invasive way to deal with a range of foot issues, allowing you to avoid surgery.
